LEGISLATION ADVOCACY

One of the most important functions of the PTA is to provide information to its members about legislation and activities related to the eduction of their children.  To make a difference, PTA must continually advocate for the education, health and safety of our children.  The definition of "advocacy" is to "urge action".  Per the California State PTA:
     * PTA is nonpartisan and never endorses or opposes a candidate for public office.
     * PTA does take positions on issues that affect children and youth. The Advocacy Communicator comes out once a month and highlights what topics are top of mind right now with legislation pertaining to PTA and public education. It can be shared publicly as well.

QUICK ACTIONS
Please take a second to follow our QUICK ACTIONS link!!
Most important/urgent right now is to encourage a NO vote on the education appropriations bill - Congress is working on the Fiscal Year 2024 budget and proposal is to cut $22.1 billion in education.  That's a devastating 28%. As written it will cut federal funding by 28% and 80% for Title 1 funds as well as other drastic cuts. This is one of 12 appropriations bills that are currently being debated and will be voted on in November.

Click QUICK ACTIONS & see how you can help!!

QUICK ACTIONS gives ways that parents/community members can use to quickly communicate with our local elected officials on topics that the PTA has taken a position on.

Week of August 21st

THANK YOU!!!

SCHS Teacher & Staff Welcome Back Breakfast was a huge success!

Thank you so much to all of the parent volunteers who helped us last week and/or donated items.  We had 56 parents participate with donations of food, gift cards & their precious time!  It really does take a village!

Thanks again & special kudos to our PTSA Hospitality Chairs, Christina Molyneux and Pesha Barton, who managed the event and lead the charge!
